Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a therapeutic practice derived from traditional Chinese medicine, which involves the insertion of fine needles at specific points on the body. These acupuncture points are found along energy pathways known as ‘meridians’, which are considered to be the routes along which vital energy, known as ‘Qi’ (or ‘Chi’), circulates. The aim of acupuncture is to re-establish balance and harmony in the body, thereby promoting healing and well-being. This self-healing process is called homeostasis.

The principles of acupuncture
Qi, Yin and Yang: At the heart of acupuncture is the concept of Qi, which represents the vital force. Yin and Yang are opposing but interdependent concepts that must be in balance to maintain health. Acupuncture aims to balance these forces and harmonise the flow of Qi.
Acupuncture points: There are several hundred acupuncture points on the body, each with specific effects. Practitioners choose these points according to patients’ individual needs, often after a thorough diagnosis.
Use of needles: The needles used in acupuncture are very fine and sterile. They can be inserted at different depths and sometimes manipulated to stimulate blood circulation and the flow of Qi. Margaux acquired a painless method of puncture in China. In some cases, other techniques, such as heat (moxibustion) or electro-acupuncture, can also be used.

An acupuncture session
At Margaux’s acupuncture Centre in Geneva, a typical acupuncture session begins with a full assessment of the patient. This initial step may include detailed questions about your medical history, lifestyle, sleeping habits, diet and, of course, your current symptoms. After this discussion, Margaux, your acupuncturist, will also examine your tongue and check your pulse according to the principles of traditional Chinese medicine. These elements are crucial to establishing an accurate diagnosis tailored to your condition.
The acupuncture session is often completed by a massage of the meridians, which allows Margaux to gain a clearer and more complete picture of your pathology and the circulation of your vital energy. Once the appropriate acupuncture points have been determined, the needles are carefully inserted. Finally, Margaux will end the session with a relaxing head and neck massage, to ensure the patient is as comfortable as possible and to optimize the effect of the therapy. She is one of the few therapists in Geneva to combine several techniques in a single session to maximize the benefits for her patients.
